Cotton

Cotton, a tropical and perennial plant belonging to the mallow family, can reach 80-120 cm in length, depending on its variety. The root of this pile rooted plant, which looks like a bush and has an upright structure, grows up to 180 cm under the ground. Although it is perennial, cotton is also cultivated for one year.

Cotton, which is widely used in vegetable oil production and textile industry, has an important place in agriculture worldwide with its natural structure and benefits. Cotton fibers with very high pure cellulose content are used in the fabric and weaving industry.

Factors such as air temperature, precipitation amount, humidity rate, soil type and daylight are taken into consideration to ensure that cotton cultivation is efficient. Cotton, which grows in hot climatic conditions, does not grow in regions where frost events occur. The ideal air temperature for the plant, whose growing time varies between 120-200 days, is approximately 15°C and above. The need for temperature varies according to the growth stages of the plant; and the need for water varies according to the soil characteristics during the growing period.
